FANEUIL, INC. OFFICE

A fast-growing service company that provides outsourcing solutions for organizations needing customer care and technical support, Faneuil, Inc. employs over 3,500 professionals nationwide. Company leadership turned to PMA Architecture’s design team to transform and expand 10th-floor office space overlooking downtown Hampton.

From the outset, the firm’s leadership was interested in embracing the emerging new ethic of an open and collaborative work setting and flattening the hierarchical pyramid of the typical 20th-century office model where private, closed offices walled-off workers in honeycomb geometries.

One of most stunning features of Faneuil, Inc.’s new headquarters is the gentle, but distinctive curving and tilting of the interior corridor walls inspired by the sculptures of Richard Serra. The concept began as a series of nested, curved walls symbolizing waves – reflective of the scenic water-view location. 

With panoramic views of the Hampton River, the Chesapeake Bay and downtown Hampton, the space incorporates full-height glass along corridor walls to allow maximum visibility through the continuous glass ribbon windows around the perimeter of the floor plate. Thus, it became possible to see through walls that formerly were opaque and to establish an openness where people in the office could see each other and relate better to the overall mission of the firm.

Corporate values are reflected in a highly visible display of sustainable products, such as recycled countertop glass, floor tiles that incorporate recycled materials, and occupancy sensors that control office illumination and LED lighting. Materials and furnishings comfortably blend shine, texture, and pattern with a calming color palette enlivened with punches of color that mirror the Owner’s sophisticated style and love of the water.
