CHESAPEAKE BAY HOME
The design of this stunning waterfront residence on the Chesapeake Bay began with a discussion about creating a majestic shingle-style cottage with a very modern interior. The architects translated this into a design narrative where the project design embodied the basic form of an historic New England shingle-style seaside cottage which had been completely renovated to adapt to modern design values.
This house features a geothermal heating and cooling system which dramatically reduces the electrical energy consumption of the dwelling all year long. In order to improve the home’s resistance to storm tidal surge on this coastal site, a pond was developed at one end of the site which allowed sufficient sand to be moved to the building pad to provide an additional eight feet of elevation above the existing site grades.
